Pennecon Privateers Announce Honorary Captain for 2011 TELUS Cup

March 18, 2011 - Who will the Pennecon Privateers turn to when they look for leadership and inspiration as they enter into regional play downs for the 2011 TELUS Cup? Who will inspire the team and prove to them that Newfoundlanders can succeed on the biggest stages in the country?

Jake Doyle, that's who. Oh yeah!

Allan Hawco, aka Private Investigator Jake Doyle of the hit CBC television series, Republic of Doyle, (pictured with Betty Nolan, Pennecon Limited) has been chosen to be the honorary captain of the Pennecon Privateers Major Midget hockey team. The Pennecon Privateers will be the Host Team competing against five Regional Qualifiers at the 2011 TELUS Cup at Mile One Centre in St. John's, from April 18-24th.

"We are extremely thrilled to have Allan become a part of our team as we enter final preparations for the TELUS Cup", commented Privateers Team Manager Tim Power. "Having our team based out of the Goulds Arena all season, we have been scouting Allan for a while and have been impressed by his never say die attitude, knack for knowing what it takes to win in the end and his ability to take a punch every now and then".

An ardent hockey fan and reportedly a fairly skilled rec hockey player in his own right, Allan will serve as a role model for all Privateers who are pursuing their own dreams at the 2011 TELUS Cup.
