Pennecon Leading the Way in the Concrete Industry
St. John’s, July 24, 2007 – Demonstrating its leadership in a growing concrete industry in Newfoundland and Labrador, Capital Precast Limited (CPL), a subsidiary of Pennecon Limited, has opened a new state-of-the-art precast concrete production facility just outside St. John’s.
The new production facility, which officially opens today, has resulted in the consolidation of all of CPL’s precast concrete operations in one location, enabling the company to better address clients’ needs. The facility is housed in a newly constructed 10,000 square foot building. The new building is located at CPL’s main production facilities site on the TCH, complementing CPL’s existing 20,000 square feet of production buildings.
Capital Precast Limited General Manager Gary Guinchard said with the addition of the new facility both the drycast and wetcast plants now operate from the same site. He said the company is excited about serving current and new clients.
“The new production facility indeed enhances and expands our precast concrete production to meet the needs of the Newfoundland and Labrador marketplace,” said Guinchard. “All of our personnel now operate in one area instead of being spread out in different locations like we were in the past. We are now better able to pool our resources and streamline operations to more effectively meet and exceed our clients’ needs – that is our priority.”
CPL is the largest precast concrete producer in Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the only CSA certified plant in the province and one of just two in Atlantic Canada. The company manufactures a variety of concrete products, including manholes, catch basins, chambers, pipe, box culverts, septic tanks, steps, architectural concrete, burial vaults, storage units, wics, bridge girders, concrete chambers, arch culverts, wall panels, retaining blocks and road barriers.
Hedley Blundon, Vice President of Pennecon’s Concrete Division, said he is proud of Capital Precast’s growth over the years, now one of Eastern Canada’s largest precasters. “We are committed to producing top quality products and boast a staff of quality control technicians and engineers, as well as onsite testing laboratories to ensure that we not only meet but exceed industry standards,” said Blundon. “At Pennecon Concrete we strongly believe in constantly improving our performance and products. This is reflective of all of Pennecon’s divisions and operations as we continue to position ourselves in the marketplace and grow as industry leaders.”
