Ches Penney Named To The Order
Of Canada
The Telegram - November 12, 2010 - Newfoundland businessman Ches D. Penney of Conception Bay South has been named a
Member of the Order of Canada, it was announced today.
Penney is among 41 recipients from across Canada to be invested to the Order on Wednesday.
According to a news release, Gov. Gen. David Johnston will preside over an Order of Canada investiture ceremony at Rideau Hall in
Ottawa at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday November 17th.
Johnston will bestow the honour on three Companions, 11 Officers and 27 Members.
The Order of Canada was created in 1967, during Canada's centennial year, to recognize a lifetime of outstanding achievement,
dedication to the community and service to the nation. Since its creation, more than 5,000 people from all sectors of society have been invested
into the Order.
The news release states that Penney is one of Newfoundland and Labrador's most accomplished entrepreneurs in the construction,
energy and real estate industries.
He is founder and chairman of the Penney Group and has made important contributions to the economic growth and industrial
development of his province. His personal generosity is equal to his commitment to community. Known as a quiet philanthropist, he has generously
supported an array of charitable and non-profit organizations, such as the Canadian Red Cross, The Salvation Army, the General Hospital Health
Foundation and the YMCA-YWCA.
