Description: Awarded in April 2008 and completed in May 2009, the Travers Inlet Structure was a $12.65 million dollar project located at the North End of the Travers Reservoir in southeastern Alberta.
The structure is approximately 175 kms southeast of Calgary and forms an integral component of the Carseland-Bow River Headworks System. Scheduled to go into operation on April 9th, 2009, water flowed through the new structure commencing on April 17th, 2009 when Alberta Environment started filling the Travers Reservoir for the 2009 Season.
Work involved 110,000 cubic metres of Mass Excavation (May – August 2008), 2,400 cubic metres of Structural Concrete (Mid August 2008 to Early March 2009) and 70,000 cubic metres of assorted Granular & Rip Rap Placement for Slope Protection (Early October – November 2008) and was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.
Dewatering for the excavation was controlled through the installation of a Well Point Pumping System (Upper & Lower Stages) with ongoing monitoring of the discharge into the Travers Reservoir.
