Description: Awarded in July 2004 and completed in December 2004, the Activated Sludge and Water Treatment Project was a $7.5 million dollar project located at the Abitibi Consolidated Inc. paper mill in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador.
The project consisted of three main components: the Aeration Basin, the Secondary Clarifier and the Equipment Building. The Aeration Basin was a concrete tank consisting of 3 cells, 108 meters long, 17 meters wide and 9 meters high, the Secondary Clarifier was a circular concrete tank, 42 meters in diameter and 5 meters high, the Equipment Building was an 800 square meter structural steel building with concrete foundation. EFCO formwork system was used to form the walls of the Aeration Basin and the Secondary Clarifier. The use of these steel forms allowed for large wall pours to be constructed very efficiently. Approximately 9000 cubic meters of concrete was poured in twelve weeks |
